Marla Mossman Digital Photography Workshops are applicable across all fields of study including art, architecture, travel and tourism, advertising, media and communication, history, journalism and documentary photography, hobbyist and just for fun. Participants develop a greater understanding of their camera to enable them to apply this knowledge throughout their lives. Participants learn the camera's capabilities and control the features of the DSLR camera including apertures, shutter speeds, ISOs, to get the full benefit of this intricate digital equipment. Workshops are conducted on location in landmark areas of New York City. ON LOCATION: NEW YORK Participants learn to capture stunning images by gaining more control with the camera setting.
Each On Location class begins with a brief lecture and Q&A session on specific topics. Students take walking instruction through one of a variety of photogenic locales. Students put to practice the workshops lesson during this 3-hour session. Locations include city life and street photography, architecture photography for interiors and exteriors of landmark building, bazaars and markets, landscapes. As well as learning tips and techniques in “Reportage Photography” with candid portraits of the local street life.
Marla Mossman has over 25 years of experience in photography as printer and professional photographer. She will guide students through each step of the process in a fun three-hour session. Over the entire workshop series they will learn to shoot strategically, getting more interesting photos and come away with a foundation to improve their photographs in the future, whether for work and or pleasure. During the class, students learn and apply new concepts like panning and depth of field. Another skill is the understanding of the correct use of depth of field. This will help add another dimension to the students photos... literally. Much of the time, depth of field is used to accentuate beautiful natural scenes. Another creative use is in Portrait Photography where the focus is only on the eyes. It can be used in any situation to create a more interesting and complex image. For these strategies, Marla gives instruction on both the fundamental mechanics of the technique and ways to apply it to improve the everyday photograph.
Notes: International Sessions of Digital Photography
I thought Marla offered a great mix of both the art and science of photography. She guided me to improve my "eye" so I could more quickly see potential shots, and also helped me better appreciate how to shutter speed and aperture to my advantage. I appreciate that she took the time to understand what my photographic style is, and helped me to improve that, rather than trying to get me to photograph in a traditionally "perfect" way. I also appreciated that she took the time to help me better understand my camera controls - even Googling to help me figure out some buttons that I should have known myself.
Marla was great. I learned a lot and came away very encouraged about continuing to learn more. Thanks.
Thanks Marla for a great class !
the instructor is very pleasant, interesting and well spirited. she had difficulties understanding what i needed to learn, and understanding my camera. i was looking for a more intuitive, hands-on approach, and she focused instead on technological aspects. i cannot say i learned in this class; i learned less than in other more experiential classes i have taken.
I loved this class! . Marla was very nice and answered any question we had. She walked us through how to find those opportunities to get a great shot and at the end she will give you a feedback on your pictures. I would take any class with her again.
Had a wonderful class! The teacher is knowledgeable for customising the class for the needs of the student.
This class was fantastic! I came away after the three hours feeling much more confident in my ability to use my camera in manual mode and capture the shot. I would definitely recommend this class.
I had such a great time on this workshop! Instructor Marla Mossman was terrific, and offered helpful advice on both the technical aspects of operating my DSLR as well as scouting interesting subjects and locations for street photography. She did a wonderful job tailoring the workshop to my skill level and background.
I wound up being the only student at my session, but Marcy ran the class anyway. So for almost three hours I had a one on one photography lesson. I also had a great time chatting about life, the universe and everything with Marcy. All in all, a great experience and I took away lots of learning. Thanks Marcy.
I had a lot of fun and got some great shots.
