Functional Art with Fusing

Come learn the craft of fusing glass! We will learn to cut and create really fun and usable objects for your home or as gifts!

Simply put, kilncasting is the process of using molds to replicate an object in glass through a kiln firing. During this six week class, we will dive into the steps required to execute a kilncast glass object, learning about several different methods along the way. Over the weeks, we'll explore a variety of mold materials to help us get from the original object to a wax model, then finish the class by casting our waxes in glass. Mold materials will include the use of skin-safe alginate and silicone caulking to create molds, as well as clay positives and more! No experience required.

What to Expect: Students should expect to leave the class with up to 3 projects (under 6” in any direction). Work will be cast during the class weeks, no firings will go beyond the end of class. We will be casting primarily with bullseye clear cullet, and will have access to whatever additional colored frit or powder is available. Clothing that you don’t mind getting messy and stained should be worn, aprons will also be available for studio use. 

Eligibility: No previous experience required, but this is also an excellent class for students with experience in other kilnforming or casting techniques.

This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.
