In this class, students will integrate the lessons of the flame shop and the jeweler’s bench. We’ll begin at Urban Glass, learning to create glass beads and components, including surface details and coldworked finishes. At Brooklyn Metal Works, we’ll learn metalsmithing skills and fabrication techniques. Throughout the course we’ll discuss design principles and explore our creativity, finishing the session with wearable art that expresses your unique style and skills to fuel experimentation moving forward.
All levels welcome. For beginners, this class will include plenty of demonstrations, as well as ample class time and studio availability to practice and refine technique. For those with glass or jewelry experience, please come with ideas for integrating these two disciplines, and we can explore possibilities together.
What to Expect: Flameworking requires a little practice at heat control with the torch to create successful beads. After demonstrations, expect to make between 1-4 successful objects in this class, and a couple failures, while gaining confidence and skill in the studio.
