Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this lecture class:

Once each month, we invite a sustainable textile vendor to come present their materials and processes. Join us for March’s Textile Tuesday with Xoomba, a young design company producing organic fabrics in Burkina Faso, West Africa.

Xoomba abides by the highest environmental and ethical standards to create sustainable livelihoods in Sub Saharan Africa. This revolutionary line is delivered with an upbeat sense of style at a moderate price.

Advantages for designers?
  • The artisanal methods of production make it possible to produce custom fabrics at low minimums.
  • They are able to keep prices relatively low for hand made, organic fabric by not working through distributors or intermediaries.
  • Every aspect is traceable as Heather works closely with her dyers and weavers, and thoroughly understands the issues that they deal with.
Founder, Heather Chaplet will present the fabrics Xoomba has recently produced as well as some earlier designs to give a good idea of what is possible.

Day Schedule:
  • 4pm presentation begins
  • 5pm audience questions
  • 6pm end of event
