Description
Class Level: All levels
Age Requirements: 18 and older
Average Class Size: 12
Teacher: E.A. Burlingame

What you'll learn in this unique class:

Do you feel as if you are too fat? Do you feel as if you are too thin? Did you know that there is a cultural element to your feeling?

In this class we will explore food, health and body image trends from an anthropological perspective. Using cultural and historical comparisons, we will explore how cultures define what is an acceptable body type and how food and health affect, and are affected by, these choices.

While we will touch upon these processes in various cultures, our main cultural focus will be on America. This class will include lecture, discussion and classroom activities.

Refund Policy
If you're looking for a refund or class credit, you need to back out of the class a full week before it starts. (No exceptions!) We know it's draconian, but since we aren't charging an arm and a leg and have to buy all our materials in advance, it's kinda hard to deal with last-minute bailings.

We also can't transfer registrations to a future session of the class. Sorry!

Instead of dropping out if you have a schedule conflict, a better idea is to ask around and see if any of your friends want the spot. We can't give you a refund less than a week out, even if there's a wait list for the class.

Regarding bad weather, we generally only cancel classes if the subway system stops running. If traveling during snowstorms might be an issue for you, please take this into account before registering for a class.

Culture, Food, and the Body

The class started after 15 minutes because the teacher waited for as many people possible to arrive. But the class finished at 8pm anyway, so it was 15 minutes shorter, due to late people. No big deal... But So you know. For the rest, I enjoyed the class enough especially for the price.

The professor was great, but there wasn't much ground covered in this class. It was a brief introduction to what anthropology is, and a quick overview of diets from two groups of people.
