  • Understand the differences between different data management systems for SQL databases.
  • Create basic SQL queries by applying Boolean logic, sorting functions, and commenting.
  • Apply SQL aggregate functions [MIN, MAX, SUM, AVG, COUNT].
  • Use CAST to change a column’s type for a query.
  • Use advanced SQL commands [OR, GROUP BY, HAVING] and conditional operators [ =,!=,>,<, IN, NOT IN, and BETWEEN] to filter data.
  • Apply string, date, and math functions to manipulate how data is presented.
  • Apply UNION to tables and columns for merging data.
  • Use JOINS to create relationships between tables to obtain data.

I took the SQL Bootcamp one day crash course and learned a lot in a day! Nigel is very sharp, well versed in the subject and great at teaching it in a precise way that makes it stick! I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to learn SQL in a short period of time.

Nigel was a great teacher! He explained SQL concepts well and infused humor into the class. On my part, the basics of SQL was easy to follow, but wished we had more time to practice and learn joining of tables.

I took the course with two coworkers and we were disappointed with our experience. Our instructor did not send out any instructions until 11:54 pm the night before so we had to spend time in class downloading the database. In class the day of, the instructor seemed to be rushing through the slideshow telling us he would email it to us later. We did not have enough time to complete the sample questions and he blew through the explanation of those as well again telling us he'd email it to us later. At the time it felt like we had a lot to cover so it seemed like it was justified. However at about 4 pm he told us it was time to take a 15 minute break and that we might as well just leave after and 'beat rush hour' because the homework assignment he was giving us would take at least an hour and fifteen minutes to do. My coworkers and I decided to go to nearby cafe and finish it together. We could only do six out of the eight homework problems because it turns out he did not actually teach us everything we needed to do. We emailed Nigel about it around 5:30 to ask if we were missing something and he has yet to respond. Looking back on what the course promised its clear he skipped over chunks of it in order to leave early.

The instructor was high energy and focused on helping making sure students were engaged. The first half of the class had a good pace and moved through the core topics with exercises that reinforced the learning. The second half of the class went too quickly, covering too many topics which didn't fully build on each other. Since the topics were more complex/abstract it was more difficult to cement those learnings. Ultimately the class ended 1 hour early so we didn't get to take advantage of the full time. I would still recommend the course but it could be improved.
