Katherine Malmsten

Katherine Malmsten is a calligrapher and designer near Seattle, Washington; she has a BFA in Painting and a BA in English Literature from the University of Washington in Seattle. They have proven to be an excellent (though unplanned!) background for calligraphy; and she has since pursued specialized studies in calligraphy and lettering in both the commercial and fine art aspects. Her work has been published nationally and she has taught classes and workshops on local and national levels, including invitations to teach at several international conferences. She has a particular interest in
new and experimental tools, using them to create letterforms that have
visual texture. Contemporary interpretations of traditional forms, using text in its visual and verbal aspects (how it looks as well as what it says), and mixing elements all find their way into her exhibit and personal pieces.
