Frederic Richter received his BA from Sarah Lawrence College and his MFA from The American Film Institute (AFI). His thesis film, MACHSOM, was the recipient of numerous grants and honors, including the DELUXE Production Grant and was selected as one of five out of 28 thesis films to screen at the Director’s Guild in Los Angeles. The film screened at over twenty-five festivals worldwide, including AFI FEST, where it was the only AFI Thesis film selected that year. His screenplay APPEARANCES, won 1st place in the Slamdance Screenwriting competition. The feature, BLIND, co-written with Joe Novoa, is in pre-production with Parallax producing. He has a number of other independent feature projects in development with producers. He is currently writing a feature for an independent film director. His script, ANOTHER LIFE was recently optioned to Longtale Productions.
Frederic has worked as a Story Analyst and consultant for numerous companies, including QED International, Black Label Media and The Black List 3.0. He has worked on an upcoming series for The Investigation Discovery Channel, and The History Channel. He is Director of Development at Tradition Pictures, an independent film and tv production company.
He has taught classes on screenwriting, film history and the entertainment industry at Sarah Lawrence College, NYU SPS, Mercy College and The Ghetto Film School. He is a Teaching Artist at The Ghetto Film School, an Instructor at NYU SPS, and The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence, and a Guest Instructor at Sarah Lawrence College. He is on the Alumni Board at Sarah Lawrence College, and the Board of the Hollywood Radio Television Society (HRTS)-- Associates N.Y.
