Patrick Mangan

Teaches at Irish Arts Center

Two-time All-Ireland fiddle champion Patrick Mangan is from Brooklyn, New York, where he was introduced to traditional music at an early age. He grew up playing alongside legendary Irish musicians from both sides of the Atlantic and studied with renowned fiddler and teacher Brian Conway. Noted music critic Earle Hitchner has stated that Patrick "embodies all that is admirable and durable about the Irish tradition in America."

At sixteen, Patrick appeared in Riverdance on Broadway, becoming the youngest fiddler in the show’s history. Since then, he has toured extensively with Riverdance and other luminaries of Celtic music, performing at some of the most prestigious venues around the globe, in over 30 countries on every continent. Patrick currently serves as Riverdance's musical director and fiddle soloist. He also performs frequently in the Broadway hit Come From Away. In addition to his love for the stage, Patrick is an award-winning composer. His latest critically-acclaimed album “Departures” offers a fresh take on Irish music, comprised of original, globally-inspired melodies. 

Patrick is passionate about passing on the tradition and sharing what he has learned through his own experiences over the years. He has extensive teaching experience and is honored and excited to be joining the esteemed teaching staff at the Irish Arts Center. His classes will use tunes not only to build repertoire, but to focus on technique such as bowing, ornamentation, rhythm, and ear training. Custom-made recordings and sheet music will be provided, and Patrick will also feature recordings from landmark albums by master fiddlers, to analyze and learn from their individual approaches to various tunes.
